Battles & Silences During the First and Second World War, church bells were smelted into deadly weapons. Now that there is another war on European turf, HIIIT is smelting military scrap from the Ukrainian battlefield into new musical instruments. In collaboration with sound artist Hans van Koolwijk, the Royal Eijsbouts Foundry created a church bell out of no less than 8 kilos of pure messing, originating from empty Ukrainian shells. Anthony Fiumara and Mathijs Leeuwis, together Poulson Sq., express history in sound, the memory and origins of church bells. But the world doesn’t understand music; only silence can speak for itself. Get ready for a unique sound experience!
