Serenade for Isabella
When you think of The Renaissance, you think of devout polyphony and subtle lute songs. But that’s not all there is! Because to give extra kick to a party, there were the alta bands. The Bremen-based ensemble [hanse]Pfeyfferey specialises in ‘loud’ instruments such as the shawm and the slide trumpet.
Serenade for Isabella dives into the Casanatense Songbook, a wedding gift for Isabella d’Este. We get to see an amazing image of the international European music word of the time, where not only famous singers such as Dufay and Josquin crossed the Alps, but also German wind players, endlessly far from home.

Lili Pätzold – cornett
Laura Dümpelmann – shawm, bombarde & arrangements
Alexandra Mikheeva – slide trumpet & trombone
