Kafkaesque Last year marked the one-hundred-year anniversary of the premature death of the author Franz Kafka. No better moment for the Rotterdam-based band Coal Harbour to start exploring his surrealistic and absurd work in Kafkaesque. As a self-proclaimed ‘cage in search of a bird,’ Kafka illuminated issues that remain painfully relevant. Because even today, alienation and dehumanisation permeate deeply, and finding an antidote is becoming urgent. Coal Harbour is an eleven-person collective walking the exciting line between modern classical and modern jazz. ‘Coals Harbour is a new buttress in our country’s jazz,’ says JazzNu.
