Had she been here to see this, the Dutch cellist and conductor Frieda Belinfante without a doubt would have felt proud and moved at this performance by the Belinfante Quartet, a string quartet named after her. The Belinfante Quartet is fast upcoming and champions repertoire by the kind of musicians that struggled to receive any kind of recognition in Belinfante’s time: women. Today that repertoire includes Sally Beamish' String Quartet no. 3 'Reed Stanzes', the only string quartet by Belinfante’s beloved Henriëtte Bosmans, and a new work by Mathilde Wantenaar.
