Language is power Language is not neutral, argues Turkish-German writer and activist Kübra Gümüşay in her bestseller Sprache und Sein. In fact, language is political and categorises people. Gümüşay grew up with Turkish, Arabic, German and later English and moved between the different worlds. In conversation with Peter Florence, she reveals the power of language, talks about her metaphor of the Language Museum and goes in search of a language that does not exclude and allows people to exist in all their diversity. The conversation is introduced by Esra Berkman who brings another language to the table with her music. She will premiere Taksim in Suzinak by Turkish-Dutch composer Meliha Doguduyal for solo qanun.

Is there kids’ programming?
Yes, on every festival day there is a program for kids, check out our Kids page for more information. And: entrance is free for children and youth up to 18 years! They do need an entrance ticket, which you can order through the ticketshop.
