It was six years ago that oud player Nawras Altaky fled Syria and ended up in the Netherlands after many wanderings. He met Caro Emerald through bass player Lucas Dols, and the three of them gave a successful performance in Paradiso in 2017. They formed a four-man band named Dyar, which is Arabic for “house”. And that is how they see their music: as an imaginary house in which people feel at home and where Arabic songs and Western jazz and hip hop can live together.
