The Tourist
A Wadden Sea island as a microcosm reflecting larger social issues, such as the housing crisis, gentrification, and cultural identity. What happens when those seeking peace and quiet clash with the island’s residents? The Tourist is a new chamber opera by Composer of the Netherlands Camiel Jansen and author Fien Veldman, which premiered in March during the Schiermonnikoog Festival. In it, the experiences of islanders and newcomers intertwine with local folklore to form a tragicomic and moving portrait of an island in transition, now on the mainland for the first time.
