W.A.L.L., an ambitious commission for the Gaudeamus Muziekweek 2019, is full of inspiring sound inventions by the composer Aart Strootman. Through his own handmade microtonal tubular bells and glass marimbas he reflects upon the return of “the wall” in these turbulent times, in which firewalls, Wall Street and American border security walls constantly confront us with borders. Walls of sound, described by NRC as **** “Musical monkey in the middle for experts.”
