Dudok Quartet Amsterdam

Fri. 15 July 2022 16:00 - 16:45, Het Veld

We say 2022, and you probably won’t say: ah, Doreen Carwithen’s hundredth birthday. Nonetheless this composer won some important awards for her chamber music in the 40s and 50s. Despite her artistic success, publishers weren’t interested in a “female composer” and, as a result, her string quartets are hardly known. It’s time for a change, and the Dudok Quartet heartily agrees. These four string players are championing this British composer and her second String Quartet – a reason for celebration, especially since they are combining Carwithen’s music with Dutch music from four centuries ago (Sweelinck, their own arrangement) and composed in this day and age, specially for them (Loevendie).
