James Oesi & Djuwa Mroivili
Dance to the Bass
James Oesi and Djuwa Mroivili both enjoy going against the grain, so they were bound to meet at some point. They are sharing the stage for the first time at Wonderfeel, with a programme filled with well-known and unknown classical repertoire. The white men Dvořák, Brahms and Gershwin are combined with the British Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, as well as the Americans Florence Price, William Grant Still, and Robert Nathaniel Dett. Influential as they were in their time, they are underrepresented today. To complete the programme, Oesi and Mroivili present music from the Afro-American tradition, which was a great inspiration to Dvořák and Gershwin.
James Oesi – double bass
Djuwa Mroivili – piano
