Intercultural music has always been an important subject in the work of Julian Tjon Sack Kie. No surprise given his background; Julian grew up in Utrecht, but his roots lie in Surinam. While studying Music and Technology at the HKU, his interest in the integration of electronic music within acoustic music emerged. His main sources of inspiration are nature and non-western philosophy. He is currently studying composition at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Willem Jeths, Meriç Artaç and formerly Wim Henderickx. During his studies, his focus is not only on composing contemporary music, but also on collaborating with different disciplines.

Julian is composing a piece for violinist Rakhi Singh.
